Pharmacological and Clinical Effects
The Human gastrointestinal tract is colonized with a diverse population of microbes (microbial flora). This microbial flora not only has digestive function but also contributes in the homeostasis of intestinal epithelium and innate immunity. This microflora’s change is effective in the pathogenesis of various diseases, such as infections, inflammations, allergies and immunologic disorders. Recognition of the importance of intestinal microflora has increased the use of probiotics for promoting and maintaining overall health. Probiotics are live microorganisms which cause health benefits on the host if they are used in adequate amount. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are the most common probiotic strains. Streptococcus thermophilus and Saccharomyces boulardii are also used as probiotics.

The probiotic strains used in this product are safe. Most of the probiotics are registered as GRAS agents (Generally Recognized as Safe) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the rest are approved by Europe and Japan. Probiotics are well tolerated and can only cause bloating in some patients, which usually improves with continued use. If this complication persists or worsens, inform your doctor or pharmacist.
